In life, I have a variety of roles; therefor, I feel that I experience success stories in a variation of ways. To me, success is meeting goals that I have set; that my contribution or efforts have had a positive effect for myself or others. I read a saying once, "Success is not a destination it's a journey, it's the direction in which you are traveling". As we go through life experiences our successes keep us going and striving to challenge ourselves to be even more successful.
As a teacher, I feel success when my students have that, “Ah-ha” moment, when they understand a new concept that has been puzzling them and that I was able to help them with their understanding. Another success is watching my students share their projects with pride and enthusiasm. This tells me that the assignments that I have created for them is engaging and meaningful. With both of these success examples, I feel that I have achieved my goals of meeting my students learning needs.
As a mother, I feel successful when I watch my children achieve their goals. I support them and encourage them through life. Watching them feel pride in their activities, from their school assignments, extra curricular accomplishments, to everyday life skills, I feel such success and pride watching them and assisting them where needed.
As my own person, I feel successful when I challenge myself to step outside of my comfort zone. As a child, I was extremely scared of heights and perhaps swimming. As an adult, I have parasailed twice, snorkelled a few times, and love to spend my time in the water. In addition, through my work, I set learning goals that focus on enhancing my technology skills to help me in many areas of life. I actually am close to classifying myself as a computer geek sometimes now, which is a huge accomplishment and success for me, as I always viewed myself as more of an athlete than anything else.
The key to success is believing you can have a positive contribution, setting goals, and working to ensure that you achieve them.
Fabulous achievement, Lynette! I hope you continue to enjoy this outdoor winter sport. You can enjoy the outdoor beauty while you get your exercise at the same time!
WOW! That is a fantastic success story, Lynette!! What an exciting accomplishment. I know you would have worked very hard, with lots of practice; and had fun at the same time. Congratulations!
